Education
PhD in Literature Education (earned in August 1996), London University Institute of Education, department Culture, Language and Communication, supervised by Gunther Kress. The dissertation – Literature Education as a Social Metaphor – dealt with the main western paradigms of literature education. It was sponsored by federal Brazilian agent CAPES. I was also the recipient of the Overseas Research Award (ORS, CVCP) from 1993 to 1996.
MA in Education (August 1989), Faculdade de Educação da Universidade Federal Fluminense, supervised by Celia Lucia Monteiro de Castro. The dissertation – The Dynamization of Reading in the School Library – analysed and described a reading enhancing project carried out in the library of a primary school in Niterói. Won a one-year grant from Brazilian federal agency CNPq (1988-9).
BA and teacher-training in anglo-lusophone languages and literatures (Lettres), Instituto de Letras da Universidade Federal Fluminense (graduated in July 1973), spending the final year of studies as a monitor to Professor Yedda Alvarez, in the area of English teacher-training.
